Bruce Springsteen has released his cover of the 2015 Jesse Malin “She Don’t Love Me Now.” The new song appears on the forthcoming covers compilation Silver Patron Saints. Find the track below.
Springsteen is among the many artists paying tribute to Malin across Silver Patron Saints. Proceeds from the album will go to the New York musician’s Sweet Relief fund, which was set up after he sustained, in 2023, a rare and sudden spinal stroke that left him paralyzed from the waist down.
Springsteen recorded “She Don’t Love Me Now” with Malin’s back band and his own E Street Band saxophonist, Jake Clemons. “Bruce gave it that Stax-soul-thing that we were dreaming of when we recorded the original,” Malin remarked in a press statement. “It’s so surreal to me.”
Malin and Springsteen previously collaborated on the 2007 track “Broken Radio,” which got reissued, in 2022, as “Broken Radio ’22.” Further discussing Springsteen, Malin stated, “Bruce’s generosity, honesty, and support are equally as powerful as his songwriting and performing. Bruce is one of the guys. He walks it like he talks it. You spend some time with him, and it feels like you’ve known him for years. He’s like my friends in Queens, sitting around talking about Sinatra, the Clash, and the Pogues. He has that passion and excitement for life.”
Silver Patron Saints is out September 20. It features Bleachers, Spoon, Dinosaur Jr., the Hold Steady, Susanna Hoffs, Green Day’s Billie Joe Amstrong, and more.
