Busted and McFly are to embark on a joint tour – with a twist.
The Noughties pop groups will hit the road next year, but their run of gigs will aim to discover which of the two are the better band.
James Bourne, who is in Busted with Charlie Simpson and Matt Willis, told The Sun newspaper: “The whole tour is to find out who’s a better band. Fans can decide.
“They can come and support their band and they might change their mind. It’s going to be a fight to the death.”
Matt added: “It has been a long time coming, this tour. Fans have wanted this.
“There’s a massive crossover in the fanbases but secretly I think everyone likes Busted more.”
But fans have nearly a year to wait before the pair’s battle of the bands-style 14-date tour gets underway.
McFly and Busted – who previously became McBusted, when Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, Harry Judd and Dougie Poynter, joined Matt and James to form a supergroup – will begin their run of shows in Birmingham, on September 16th, 2025.
Busted singer Charlie joked McFly would be like a “support” act to Busted on the joint tour, just as they were during the ‘Year 3000′ hitmakers’ 2004 gigs.
He quipped: “We said, ‘We don’t want to go out again, but we will if we have to take you on. You can support us one more time, yes. Just like you did in 2004.’ “
But McFly’s Harry joked: “To be honest, these guys have obviously had their 20th anniversary and rinsed that and I think they’re a bit short on ideas, so they needed us and we felt charitable.”
