Cameron Winter’s solo New York show filmed by Paul Thomas Anderson

Fans spotted director Paul Thomas Anderson filming Cameron Winter‘s solo show in New York City last night (Thursday December 11).

The Geese frontman took to the stage at Carnegie Hall’s Isaac Stern Auditorium as part of his current US run of stripped-back piano gigs.

In footage captured from the audience, Anderson can be seen shooting Winter with Panavision 35mm gear during a rendition of ‘Nina + Field Of Cops’ from his 2024 debut album, ‘Heavy Metal’.

The caption notes that Anderson was being assisted by US filmmaker and actor Benny Safdie (Uncut Gems, Good Time, Heaven Knows What). Safdie also starred in Anderson’s 2021 film Licorice Pizza, which saw Alana Haim make her acting debut.

According to The Phrasemaker, Anderson had set up an additional shot from the balcony that reportedly ran throughout the entire concert.

Official details about what the live footage will be used for have not yet been disclosed. See the video here:

Anderson’s latest film, One Battle After Another, was released this autumn. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Chase Infiniti and Alana Haim.

The movie is the sixth Anderson feature-length project to include a score from Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood, after There Will Be Blood, The Master, Inherent Vice, Phantom Thread and Licorice Pizza.

Anderson has helmed music videos for the likes of Radiohead, The Smile and Haim. He also shot the official cover artwork for the latter band’s latest two albums, 2020’s ‘Women In Music Pt. III’. and 2025’s ‘I Quit’.

In other news, Anderson’s classic 1997 film Boogie Nights is being released on 4K UHD for the first time.

Meanwhile, Winter has two more solo shows scheduled for this weekend. He’ll perform at Los Angeles’ Palace Theatre tomorrow (Saturday December 13) and Sunday (14). A pair of dates at Chicago’s Rockefeller Chapel will follow next week.

The musician has been confirmed for Primavera Sound Barcelona 2026, where he’ll also perform live with Geese.

NME gave Winter’s recent concert at London’s Roundhouse a glowing five-star review, writing: “Cameron Winter has the power, talent and magnetism of a future great – a star to go the distance with just that voice, a piano and a whole world quite literally at his fingertips.”

The singer-songwriter is currently enjoying huge critical acclaim with Geese’s latest album, ‘Getting Killed’. It earned a five-star review from NME, before landing at Number One on our 50 best albums of 2025 list.

“‘Getting Killed’ should be enough to wake people up from their exhausted nostalgia and realise that New York – and guitar music at large – is alive and kicking down their front door,” the entry read. “At least, it’s easily the album of the year. Stay wild and carry on.”

The band’s track ‘Taxes’ also came in at Number Two in NME‘s round-up of the 50 best songs of 2025.

Elsewhere, the former NME Cover stars have been longlisted for the BBC Radio 1 Sound Of 2026. Geese have been confirmed for next year’s Reading & Leeds, too, among other festivals.
