Carly Pearce reveals she doesn’t want children: ‘It was never my dream’

Carly Pearce has revealed that becoming a parent was never part of her life plans.

The country singer-songwriter opened up about her decision while answering a fan’s question about her future family plans on TikTok, admitting that she often feels “bad” discussing her choice.

“Maybe some of you out here are like me. I always feel bad saying that I actually don’t want children,” she said. “I love children. I love my friends’ children. I’m a great aunt. But it was never my dream.”

The I Hope You’re Happy Now hitmaker, 36, explained that her biggest ambition had always been to pursue a career in country music and spend her life performing.

“My dream was to pursue country music and live on the road,” she told her followers. “I know that some people do that and they’re great at it. But it has never been my dream.”

Carly went on to call for more acceptance around people who decide not to have children, arguing that parenthood should not be seen as an expectation.

“I think we should normalise people that truly know they don’t wanna have kids,” she stated. “I don’t think it should be for everyone just because society tells us to.”

The singer concluded, “So, I don’t want children and I’m totally OK with that.”

Elsewhere in the video, Carly revealed that she remains open to marriage again following the collapse of her eight-month marriage to fellow musician Michael Ray in 2020.

“I absolutely want to get married again and intend to get married again,” she shared. “And will never let my past hinder me from doing that again.”

The Grammy winner added, “So what, I was divorced? It was my start-up marriage and now I get to have the real one.”

Reflecting on her divorce during a May episode of the Person Who Believed In Me podcast, Carly admitted she knew her marriage was over on her wedding night.

“He made it very clear that I made a very big mistake,” she recalled. “I blew up my life to get out of it. I didn’t stay because society tells you (that) you should. I didn’t stay because my faith says divorce is bad. I didn’t stay because it’s public. I was done.”
