Lucy-Bleu Knight’s cause of death has been made public.
Slash’s stepdaughter passed away in July, aged 25, leading the Guns N’ Roses guitarist to cancel four of his solo shows as he grieved.
On 29 August, the County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner released a statement announcing the cause and manner of Lucy-Bleu’s death.
The department “determined the cause of death for 25-year-old Lucy-Bleu Knight as hydrogen sulfide toxicity,” the statement read. “The manner of death is suicide.”
Hydrogen sulfide is a colourless gas that smells strongly of rotten eggs. The Centre for Disease Prevention website explains that “inhalation of high concentrations of hydrogen sulfide can produce extremely rapid unconsciousness and death”.
Lucy-Bleu was 59-year-old Slash’s stepdaughter by his girlfriend Meegan Hodges, whom he first dated briefly in 1989 before they reconnected more seriously in 2015.
“My heart is permanently fractured,” Slash, whose real name is Saul Hudson, wrote in an Instagram post on 27 July. “I will never ever stop missing you & remembering what a beacon of happiness, laughter, creativity & beauty you have always been … & still are.
“The brightest light in the lives of so many that loved you so much. I find solace in the hope that you are at peace now. I will love you eternally.”
