Chappell Roan has explained why she is voting for U.S. presidential candidate Kamala Harris but can’t go as far as endorsing her.
The Hot to Go singer came under fire for failing to endorse Harris or her Republican rival Donald Trump for president in a recent interview in The Guardian. In a follow-up video on TikTok, she clarified she was not voting for Trump but still didn’t directly endorse Harris.
The pop star has explained now why she can’t endorse the current Vice President, even though she will be voting for her.
“Endorsing and voting are completely different. I don’t agree with a lot of what is going on with policies. Obviously, f**k the policies of the right, but also, f**k some of the policies on the left,” she stated on TikTok on Wednesday. “That’s why I can’t endorse, that’s why I can’t put my entire name and my entire project behind one because there is no way I can stand behind some of the left’s completely transphobic and completely genocidal views. So yeah, there are huge problems on both (sides).”
The 26-year-old told her viewers that she wasn’t “going to settle for the options” presented to her and she wasn’t going to let people “make (her) feel bad” about that.
“So yeah, I’m voting for f**king Kamala, but I’m not settling for what has been offered because that’s questionable,” she clarified, adding that she can’t endorse a candidate she doesn’t “fully fully trust”.
Chappell, real name Kayleigh Amstutz, concluded her post by urging her fans to vote in the election in November.
“Vote for who, in your mind, is the best option for what we have right now because it’s all we can do,” she advised.
