As Chappell Roan took over pop music, she served wardrobe slay after wardrobe slay all year long. To celebrate her iconic year, the “Femininomenon” ranked her Top 10 outfits of 2024, sharing her favorite looks on Instagram.
“It’s my opinion!!!” the singer wrote in the caption, referencing a Real Housewives meme. “Why yes, I do consider myself to be iconique.”
We’ll spoil Roan’s first-place outfit to start: Roan’s favorite look of 2024 was her green-bodied Statue of Liberty outfit for Governors Ball in June, which saw her taking the stage in a weed-smoking apple, wearing green body paint and a matching dress and wig to commemorate her New York City performance.
Her Number 10 pick was from her appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, one of her first television performances ever, where she sang “Red Wine Supernova.” She wore a beige, Marie Antoinette-esque dress while surrounded by a campy heart for the occasion.
Roan ranked her pink-and-blue lucha libre wrestler-inspired look from Lollapalooza in August in ninth place. Roan took the stage that day surrounded by local bodybuilders and a strongwoman, who told Rolling Stone, “It was electrifying and sent goosebumps down my body” to perform with Roan.
The Midwest Princess‘ extravagant white swan outfit that she wore on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in June made it to Number Eight in her ranking, while her colorful butterfly wings at Coachella Weekend Two landed at Number Seven.
Her outfits at the MTV Video Music Awards appeared twice on the list: Her performance outfit — a silver knight look — made it to sixth place, while her red carpet outfit weighed in at Number Four. “Vma carpet (triggered),” Roan joked in the photo’s caption, referencing her on-carpet face-off with a photographer that day.
Roan’s beige, latex look from Weekend One of Coachella placed at Number Five, and Number Three on Roan’s list was her pink prom dress, lipstick-stained teeth, and massive red wig look from her standout visit to NPR’s Tiny Desk over the summer.
And how can we forget the iconic “Good Luck, Babe!” cover featuring Roan wearing a pig nose and a red ruby red dress? That look was actually for a Grammys afterparty in February and was “turned into” the cover for her now-iconic single. That outfit landed at Number Two on Roan’s year-end ranking.
Roan’s “Good Luck, Babe!” actually landed at Number One on Rolling Stone‘s ranking of Best Songs of 2024. “As catchy as it is raw, Roan’s only released song of this year catapulted her to megastar status and brought all her other songs with it,” RS‘ review of the track states. “It’s a pop fairytale that’s not ending any time soon.”
