Charli XCX‘s lookalikes keep multiplying. People say they’re alike, that they’ve got the same hair. Except this time, it isn’t Lorde on the other side of the comparison — it’s Saturday Night Live cast member Bowen Yang. The comedian took on the musician’s persona during a recent skit about her blockbuster album Brat. Charli took no offense to the performance. In fact, she was kind of impressed by the wig selection.
“I love Bowen and I honestly think he did a great job,” she said on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM channel. “I was very impressed with the hair texture, actually. I thought it was a really good wig. It was good, it was cool.”
In the skit, which aired this past weekend, Yang transformed into Charli to host the Talk Talk Show With Charli XCX. Surrounded by Brat-green set props, he adopted her British accent and chaotic banter with Troye Sivan, played here by Sarah Sherman. He also ran through an interview segment with Susanne Bartsch (Jean Smart), Kaitlan Collins (Chloe Fineman), and Jasmine Crockett (Ego Nwodim) while grilling them about global political conflicts and Snoop Dogg joining The Voice.
“I think SNL is iconic,” Charli said. “Troye and I, we had an inkling it was coming and so we were very excited about it.”
Charli herself has spent some time at 30 Rock for Saturday Night Live. She made her debut as musical guest in December 2014, when she performed “Boom Clap” and “Break the Rules.” She returned in March 2022 while promoting Crash, performing “Beg for You” and “Baby.”
The show returned last weekend for its milestone 50th season. Jelly Roll was the first musical guest of the season and upcoming appearances from Coldplay, Stevie Nicks, Billie Eilish, and Chappell Roan have been announced. Brat summer might be over, but there’s still time to get Charli on the season 50 lineup.
In the meantime, the singer is still hammering away at the Sweat tour, her combined live show with Sivan. She’s also gearing up for the release of an extended remix album, Brat and it’s completely different but also still brat. So far Charli has teased collaborations with Tinashe, Bon Iver, and the 1975, and confirmed the inclusion of her remixes with Billie Eilish, Lorde, Robyn, and Addison Rae.
