Charli XCX mockumentary ‘The Moment’ announces UK release date

The UK release date for Charli XCX’s mockumentary The Moment has finally been revealed.

The movie arrives via A24 and is centred around the mammoth response to her 2024 ‘Brat’ album and subsequent tour. It will be available in UK and Ireland cinemas from Friday February 20.

Directed by Aidan Zamiri, the film is made using a combination of real footage from the ‘Brat’ tour, interwoven with fictional backstage scenes.

Starring alongside Charli is Alexander Skarsgård, Rachel Sennott, Hailey Benton Gates, Jamie Demetriou, Kate Berlant, and Rosanna Arquette. It also has a cameo from Kylie Jenner.

The first trailer arrived in November, and was followed up by a second teaser in December. The latter saw snippets of the pop star debating if the term ‘Brat Summer’ was “cringe”, and her marketing team struggling to promote her music “without offending anyone”.

The Moment arrives following Charli recently revealing that she was “currently feeling more inspired by film than I am by music”, and was “enjoying discovering a new craft” as a break from making music.

She also told Vanity Fair that the inspiration for the film came as she wanted to take a step back from the expected. “It’s not a tour documentary or a concert film in any way,” she said. “But the seed of the idea was conceived from this idea of being pressured to make one,” she said.

Aside from the mockumentary, other film projects she has planned include roles in indie drama Erupcja and in the satirical thriller Sacrifice. She will also star opposite Natalie Portman in The Gallerist, and make an appearance in I Want Your Sex with Olivia Wilde.

Her next new music – following on from the ‘Brat’ album and its subsequent remix record – will be the soundtrack album for Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of Wuthering Heights.

That film arrives in cinemas from February 11 and stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. Two songs have been shared so far from the album: ‘Chains Of Love’ and the John Cale-starring ‘House’.
