Charli XCX reveals her top five Charli XCX songs

Charli XCX has revealed her top five songs from her back catalogue. Watch the clip below.

The pop star, who releases her new album ‘Music, Fashion, Film’ today (Friday July 24), shared the list during a wide-ranging interview on SPIN‘s Lipps Service podcast.

Towards the end of the chat, host Scott Lipps asked her to run through her “two five Charli XCX songs of all time”.

She responded: “Oh, God. I’m gonna get it wrong, I think, but… OK, one would be maybe like the first song I officially released, which is called ‘Stay Away’. It’s from my [debut] album ‘True Romance’.

“I just love that song. I think for me it’s very sentimental, just because it was the first sort of official song I put out. I still to this day kind of go back and listen to it, and I’m kind of like, ‘Wow! That was really cool’.”

Charli went on to shout out ‘Next Level Charli’ from her 2019 self-titled album, saying that it “feels really euphoric”.

Next up is the ‘365’ remix with Shygirl, which appears on her ‘Brat’ remix record. “I really, really love that song,” she said, describing it as “the ultimate party song because it’s actually also kind of sad”. She went on: “It’s kind of about not knowing when to leave the party, which I really have an issue with.”

Charli then praised ‘Track 10’ from her 2017 mixtape ‘Pop 2’, calling it “one of my most favourite songs I’ve ever made”. She closed out the list with 2015’s ‘Vroom Vroom’ – “the first song I ever made with SOPHIE“.

When asked to single out a highlight from ‘Music, Fashion, Film’, Charli picked closer ‘No One Lasts Forever’ featuring David Cronenberg. “I think that might be one of my most favourite songs I’ve ever written,” she explained.

Check out the moment at the 51:20 mark in the video above.

Charli had shared the singles ‘Rock Music’, ‘SS26’, ‘Wink Wink’ and ‘Camera’ ahead of dropping ‘Music, Fashion, Film’ in full. She debuted the latter track at an intimate Brooklyn pop-up show earlier this month, ahead of her tiny gig at London’s Scala.

The singer has released the B-sides ‘I Keep On Thinking Bout You Every Single Day And Night’, ‘Playboy Bunny’ and ‘If You Take Away The Music Then What Has She Got?’, too.

Charli is set to make her headline debut at Reading & Leeds next month before kicking off a North American arena tour with Underscores in September. Find any remaining tickets here.

In other news, the artist has talked about uniting the “three legends” John Cale, Marc Jacobs and Martin Scorsese on the cover art for ‘Music, Fashion, Film’.

Meanwhile, Charli XCX recently opened up about her Indian heritage, saying it can be “difficult” to understand her “identity” as a mixed-race person.
