Charli XCX has shared her 2023 manifesto for her album Brat.
In June, the British hitmaker released her sixth studio album, which reached number one in the U.K.’s Official Albums Charts and has had a huge impact on pop culture.
Following the album’s release, the term “Brat” went viral on social media and has since come to define the summer of 2024 for many fans.
In a new post on her private Instagram account, the Club Classics hitmaker shared a manifesto she created in 2023 for the groundbreaking album, detailing how she planned to dominate the charts.
“The artwork for Brat will be obnoxious, arrogant, and bold. Some people will hate it,” Charli wrote, according to Billboard, describing the album’s now iconic bright green cover. “It will be heavily text-based, either font on a plain background or painted on a wall or disregarded object.”
The singer went on to explain that she wanted to cultivate “desire, chaos, and destruction” and described the album campaign as a mix of “high art” and “low art”.
Ahead of Brat’s release, Charli held a series of underground raves to give fans a sneak peek at some of the unfinished tracks.
“I will throw a rave probably long before the album is out to tease new music,” she wrote in the manifesto. “This should be the first thing I announce. I will play unfinished demos for the first time and have other collaborators who are working on the album DJ too.”
“You need to understand my vision,” the Guess hitmaker continued. “This is global. I will provide momentum and tell the story in a laser-focused way”.
The manifesto comes shortly after Charli received eight nominations for the 2025 Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.
