Charli XCX’s team confirm she’s finishing her next studio album

Representatives for Charli XCX have confirmed that she’s currently finishing her eighth studio album.

The singer’s last album was ‘Brat‘, a record that became its own cultural phenomenon following its release in 2024, which later inspired her mockumentary, The Moment.

Since then, she’s provided the score for Emerald Fennell’s new Wuthering Heights adaptation starring Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie, and has also released a companion album for the release.

Notably, her ‘Wuthering Heights’ album featured Sky Ferreira, who has made headlines over the weekend by implying that the record used her original work without crediting her.

Charli’s team has since refuted the claims, saying: “All relevant parties were consulted throughout, and the album was played in full in advance of release to everyone. Songwriting credits and splits were determined and agreed collectively in writing, with reference to documented timelines and contributions.”

However, fans also picked up on the fact that, while responding, her team also revealed that Charli is currently in Kyoto filming a movie and completing her forthcoming new studio album, as per a statement given to Billboard.

Fans on Reddit have been reacting to the news, with one writing: “When does this girl sleep?,” and another adding: “She just put one out!??! Someone tell her to sit DOWN.”

It comes after Charli recently said that she was “currently feeling more inspired by film than by music” after being left “stuck, empty and barren” after ‘Brat‘.

Last May, she hinted that she was expecting her next, non-Wuthering Heights album to go in a completely different direction than ‘Brat’, saying: “You can never really do the same thing twice and my next record will probably be a flop, which I’m down for to be honest.”

And in February 2025, her producers A.G. Cook, Finn Keane and George Daniel – also her husband – said that the follow-up is shaping up to be “anti-Brat”, Keane saying: “Some of the conversations we’re having and music we’ve been playing around with the last couple of months have been completely the opposite.”

Recently, she also revealed that she is “exploring a lot of stuff with strings” for the album.

Charli’s ‘Wuthering Heights’ album was given a four-star review from NME and described as “delicious gothic pop for a winter of yearning”.

Meanwhile, The Moment scored a three-star review from NME, who noted that the film was “too protracted and tonally uneven to work as a great mockumentary, but it has plenty of meme-worthy moments that TikTok will lap up.

“If that sounds like faint praise, well, just remember it was enough to make Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn a sensation back in 2023.”
