The singer wrote on social media that the sonic booms have “really frightened my pregnant wife”

Charlie Puth sent a public plea to Elon Musk to stop launching rockets near his home in Santa Barbara in the middle of the night. The singer, whose wife is currently pregnant, reached out to the X owner on social media yesterday.

“Hi @elonmusk…these sonic booms have gotten progressively louder since they started launching the rockets in Santa Barbara,” Puth wrote. “This one at 3am today felt like 150-160 dB, violently shook our whole house, and really frightened my pregnant wife. I hope they do not get louder.”

So far Musk has yet to respond. As SpaceX CEO, Musk maintains rocket testing bases in California, Florida, and Texas. The California launches take place at the Vandenberg Space Force Base in Santa Barbara. According to the SpaceX website, a Falcon 9 rocket was launched Wednesday morning at 3:40 a.m. It warned that “there was a possibility that residents of Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura counties may have heard one or more sonic booms during the launch, but what residents experienced depended on weather and other conditions.”

In October, Puth appeared on The Tonight Show to perform his single “Changes.” He also sat down with host Jimmy Fallon to discuss the album and announcing becoming a father in the “Changes” music video.

“We’re expecting a baby in March,” he told Fallon. “I’m gonna be a dad. I was told not to reveal the gender.” He added, “I hope baby likes music, because it’s the only thing I’m good at.”

Puth will perform the national anthem at the 2026 Super Bowl, as announced last month. “I can’t believe I’m saying this… I will be performing the National Anthem at Super Bowl LX,” Puth captioned a silly post celebrating the news. In the clip, he broke down the difficulty of singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” to a group of football players using game-day terminology — a nod to his social videos where he overexplains music.
