Chris Brown has seemingly responded after a viral review brutally criticised his twelfth studio album, Brown.
The singer appeared to address the backlash in a series of Instagram videos on Tuesday, hours after a scathing Pitchfork review described the record as “soulless” and a “real piece of s**t”.
The review also claimed traditional media has a history of “tiptoeing around the popularity of Chris Brown”.
Taking to Instagram this week, Brown, 37, insisted the criticism had not affected him.
“Team Breezy. I know people want me to get on here and, you know, say some sad s**t, but f**k that. We kicking their s**t, goddammit. We ain’t letting up,” he began. “I’mma keep my foot on their neck, and we ain’t stopping. You hear me?”
The controversial singer continued, “We doing this motherf**ker. Tour, more s**t to come. I’m not gonna tell you what’s more to come, but it’s coming at the end of the day.”
Brown also insisted he knows who his fans are.
“I know exactly who my fans is, and I know exactly who hearing this album,” he told the camera. “If you’re not my fan, I don’t want you to listen to my s**t. Go listen to motherf**king Zara Larsson or somebody. F**k me.”
His remarks came shortly after Swedish singer Zara Larsson explained that Brown’s music would never appear on one of her Spotify playlists.
“There’s so many artists I’ve blocked on Spotify,” she told Cosmopolitan in February. “And all of them are like, abusers. You certainly wouldn’t find, like, a Chris Brown song.”
Brown released his latest album on 8 May.
The singer is also currently involved in several ongoing legal matters. Earlier this year, he pleaded not guilty after being accused of carrying out a “bottle attack” on a music producer at a London nightclub in February 2023. He is scheduled to face a jury trial in October. He is also involved in an ongoing paternity and custody case.
