Chris Brown Claps Back at Texas Politician Backtracking on Singer’s Legislative Honor: ‘Y’all Came to Me With This’

Chris Brown has responded to a Texas politician who apologized for issuing a pair of legislative honors to the Grammy-winning singer over the weekend during a Dallas stop of CB and Usher’s R&B Tour.

Brown posted a reply to state Rep. Venton Jones on his Instagram Story on Tuesday (Sept. 15) after Jones apologized for honoring the singer due to his history of domestic violence.

“Funny thing is…YALL CAME TO ME WITH THIS! NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND I was minding my damn business,” Brown wrote. “My shows in Dallas were already sold out. I ain’t ask to be honored because I knew some shit like this would happen and @eventionjonestx immediately started tap dancing and apologizing because he didn’t wanna lose voters and support.”

He continued: “I have a great idea.. how about y’all leave me the f–k alone and let me focus on the fans that spent their money to actually see and support me.”

Brown and Usher were on the receiving end of a pair of legislative honors from U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett and Jones during Saturday’s R&B Tour stop at AT&T Stadium. One entered the pair of R&B titans into the Congressional Record, while another officially recognized Brown and Usher’s artistry in the state of Texas.

Jones joined The Don Lemon Show on Monday (Sept. 14), where he backtracked and apologized to constituents for honoring Brown after receiving backlash from domestic violence advocates in the state.

“I want to offer an apology,” Jones began. “I think this is a very important conversation around domestic violence and I want to offer my apology to Black women, to women and to anyone who has experienced domestic violence and really express that it was not my intention to stoke the traumas that go into that, as well as the background of this situation.”

In 2009, Chris Brown pleaded guilty to assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna. He was sentenced to five years’ probation and community service. Brown was also forced to undergo domestic violence counseling.

Years later, in 2021, police received a call for a domestic dispute at Brown’s California residence, but charges were never filed by prosecutors, citing “insufficient evidence.”

Chris Brown and Usher’s sprawling 59-date R&B Tour continues on Friday (Sept. 18) with a show in Las Vegas before heading to L.A.’s SoFi Stadium later this month.
