John Legend has shared more details of wife Chrissy Teigen’s late-term abortion.
The model and her husband lost son Jack in 2020 after a pregnancy complication which meant she had to have a life-saving abortion.
At the time, the couple told the public Chrissy had a miscarriage.
Now John has given more details.
“My wife, she was well past 15 weeks when she had to have an abortion,” the 45-year-old singer said on the Club Shay Shay podcast.
“She was miscarrying and bleeding out, and all these things were happening.”
When podcast host Shannon Sharpe, said, “Her life was in danger,” John confirmed, “Her life was in danger.”
Chrissy had a partial placenta abruption, where the placenta separated from the uterus wall too early.
John went on to talk about the rules around abortion in the US, following the overturn of Roe V Wade in 2022. “For the government to say, ‘Oh we need to evaluate this to make sure you’re sufficiently dying before you can have an abortion…’ That’s what they’re saying, right? In Texas and in Georgia and in all these states where they have Trump abortion bans.”
He continued, “Women don’t need the government telling them what to do with their bodies. People that have an abortion after 15 weeks almost always they wanted to keep the baby but there’s some kind of complication that came up that they have to have an abortion.”
The couple share children Luna, eight, Miles, six, Esti, 21 months, and Wren, 16 months, who was born via surrogate.
