Chvrches’ Martin Doherty and Jonny Scott announce debut album as The Leaving: ‘Ultimate Buzz’

Chvrches‘ Martin Doherty and Jonny Scott have announced their debut album as The Leaving, ‘Ultimate Buzz’. Find all the details below.

The duo launched their new rave-indebted project earlier this year, which was formed after they both found themselves living in Los Angeles going through difficult times.

So far, they’ve shared their industrial debut single ‘Saved’, followed by euphoric track ‘Pray’. Now, they’ve revealed that the songs are taken from their debut album ‘Ultimate Buzz’ will be released on April 24. You can pre-order/pre-save it here.

Alongside the announcement, The Leaving have also shared a new single, ‘Fluoxetine’, written and produced by Doherty and Scott.

Over a euphoric, electronic soundscape, the duo trace the experience of grief and ultimately turn immense pain into strength. Listen below.

Per a press release, the album exists as an “unfiltered body of music forged in grief, rebuilt through friendship”. News of more music and upcoming live shows is set to be announced soon.

Last month, Doherty and Scott spoke to NME about how they formed The Leaving, with Doherty explaining that some of the songs “started out as a reaction to feeling quite lonely.”

“I haven’t really talked about this, but a bunch of really traumatic things happened in a row,” he said. “You know how people like to spend their lives complaining about how much things are going against them when really nothing was? I was maybe one of those people, then when real shit actually happens, it flattens you.

“My dad died, while Chvrches felt as far away from being a thing as it’s ever been. We never split up. Right now, we’re about 90 per cent finished on album five, but at that point I felt like there was no one in my orbit. I was living out here [in LA], and a succession of familial tragedies started with my dad.”

Meanwhile, Scott also found himself in LA facing his own personal difficulties. “I was going through my own shit at that point as well,” he told us. “My life had basically blown apart, so I was like, ‘Fuck it, I’m going to LA’. Martin bringing all this to the table just really spoke to me. We’d always been there for each other.” You can read the full interview here.

The Leaving’s ‘Ultimate Buzz’ tracklist is:

1. ‘Atmosphere’
2. ‘Fluoxetine’
3. ‘Pray’
4. ‘Speak’
5. ‘Sing’
6. ‘Saved’
7. ‘Cursed’

8. ‘Creatures’
9. ‘Ddust’

In other news, last summer, Chvrches told fans that they had started work on a new album, while Doherty and Scott recently told NME that it was 90 per cent complete. “It’s quite hard, but not to the point where you won’t recognise the band. It’s still the same people and DNA.”
