“When u come to my shows at least be respectful of me and other people in the audience,” the singer wrote on social media
Clairo, real name Claire Cottrill, has a small ask for her concert attendees. Following a show in Portland last night, the musician took to social media to encourage her male fans to be more respectful.
Portland was fun!” she wrote. “Can the guys at my shows stop yelling at me.” She added, “To be clear, it’s fine that men enjoy my music. u don’t have to be embarrassed that u like my music. but when u come to my shows at least be respectful of me and other people in the audience! thank you.”
Although it’s unclear what happened during the concert that led to Cottrill’s post, a few fans took to social media to share their experience after Cottrill tweeted. One fan wrote, “I had a absolutely amazing amazing time but I’m ngl that crowd was awful and I just wanna talk about the shitty stuff that happened I love clairo and always have loved clairo it’s just extremely disappointing to see this behavior from crowds which is not her fault in any way.”
The same fan posted a short video from Clairo’s performance, which sees the singer calling the crowd out for not paying attention. “Have any of you heard this song?” the musician can be heard saying in the video. “What the fuck?”
In another video, posted by a Spanish-language Clairo fan account, Cottrill tells the audience, “You know, we’ve had some really good crowds on this tour and I’m just wondering if you could be one of them. Or maybe even better than them. Big shoes to fill, Portland!”
Clairo is currently out on her Charm tour in North America in support of her recent LP, Charm. Last night, she performed at McMenamins Historic Edgefield Manor in Troutdale, Oregon, near Portland. The tour is set to continue through Nov. 8, when it wraps in Atlanta. Clairo is also scheduled to perform at the Corona Capital festival in Mexico City.
