Speaking to Chris Moyles, Boon made his aspirations clear, stating he wants “the Richard Ashcroft slot!” referencing the iconic support act from Oasis’s recent run of shows.
Boon explained his desire for the two Manchester-rooted bands to share a stage again, emphasizing the historical connection between them: “I’d like to share a stage with Oasis in this chapter, because it’s where, at the beginning of their story, we were there.”
He recalled the early days when Noel Gallagher worked as a roadie for Inspiral Carpets and noted that the bands were present at key moments in each other’s careers. “It’s where, at the beginning of their story, we were there… I think it’d be nice for us to reconnect on stage at some point,” Boon said.
Despite having been hired to DJ at pre-show and after-show parties for the recent Oasis gigs, Boon confessed to Moyles that he has not yet attended an actual Oasis concert this time around.
Moyles suggested that Oasis could easily accommodate more support acts on their massive stadium shows, proposing they add another band on earlier in the day. However, Boon stood firm on his request, confirming he is holding out for a top-tier slot on the bill.
Ultimately, Boon hailed the return of Oasis as a massive cultural moment, calling it “the biggest feel-good story of this decade.”
