Conservative MP calls for DJ Haram to be barred from UK after pro-Palestine speech at Sydney Biennale

The UK’s shadow home secretary Chris Philp has reportedly called for DJ Haram to be stopped from entering the country following pro-Palestine comments she made in Australia.

Last month the DJ and producer, real name Zubeyda Muzeyyen, performed live at the 25th anniversary edition of the annual Sydney festival, Biennale.

While on stage, she shared her support for those struggling in Palestine, Iran, Lebanon, Sudan and Syria, and chanted the widely used phrase: “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free”.

As reported by RA, the New Jersey DJ went on to decry the civilian death toll caused by the attacks on Palestine and Lebanon and dedicate her performance to several pro-Palestine activists.

“I refuse to comply with artwashing the genocide,” she reportedly said. “It’s our duty to protect the planet, and it’s our duty to oppose the Zio-Australian-Epstein empire. Until Palestine is free, none of us are free.”

It was later confirmed that the artist was under police investigation following comments made at the event, and NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon said that “free speech is something we value in this country,” (via MixMag).

Now, Jewish News has claimed that the comments may hinder her attempt to perform in the UK, as Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp has allegedly requested that DJ Haram be barred from performing at her scheduled dates in the UK.

The outlet quotes him as making a nod to the recent decision to prevent Kanye West from entering the UK in time to perform at Wireless 2026 due to his history of anti-Semitism, with Philp reportedly saying: “The last thing this country needs is a visit from yet another international musician embroiled in allegations of anti-Semitism and promoting terrorism.”

“As the Government continues to struggle to get a grip on the relentless wave of anti-Jewish racism and Islamist extremism in the UK, it is patently not conducive to the public good for Zubeyda Muzeyyen (DJ Haram) to perform here,” he allegedly continued. “The Home Secretary needs to get a grip and ban her.”

At time of writing, DJ Haram is set to perform as scheduled on April 17 at London’s Phonox, as well as at the planned show at Supersonic Festival in Birmingham later this month.

Nothing has come of the police investigation into DJ Haram at time of writing.

As well as DJ Haram, Massive Attack‘s Robert Del Naja has also faced police intervention for expressing support for Palestine, and was recently arrested in London during a protest against the ban on Palestine Action.

Del Naja was among hundreds of fellow demonstrators who took to Trafalgar Square on Saturday (March 12) to protest the ban on Palestine Action, and held up a sign that read “I Oppose Genocide, I Support Palestine Action”.

He was carried away from the demonstration by police and arrested on suspicion of showing support for a proscribed organisation, and went on to speak out about the arrest online.

“On the topic of madness, in Britain in 2026, you can be arrested under the Terrorism Act for sitting in silence, holding a cardboard sign stating that you oppose genocide and support non-violent action to prevent it,” he wrote.
