The teen’s decomposed remains were found in the boot of a Tesla registered in his name on 8 September.
NBC News cited a Los Angeles Police Department source with direct knowledge of the investigation, and stated that D4vd – real name David Anthony Burke – has not been charged with any crime.
The source revealed to NBC that the teen most likely died in the spring, and D4vd most likely had help dismembering and disposing of the body. The source further disclosed that the Romantic Homicide singer has not been cooperative.
This is in contrast to a statement from D4vd’s spokesman in September that he was “fully cooperating with authorities”.
D4vd was out of state on a national concert tour when news broke that human remains had been recovered from his Tesla.
Rivas Hernandez’s body was found after staff at a tow yard in Hollywood reported that the vehicle was “emanating a foul odour and attracting flies”, according to a search warrant affidavit obtained by Rolling Stone.
Rivas Hernandez would have turned 15 the day before she was discovered.
The 20-year-old platinum-selling singer has not commented publicly on the teen’s death. A day after the discovery of her remains, he performed at a show in Minneapolis.
The rest of his tour was subsequently cancelled.
