Dave Grohl had ‘no idea’ daughter Violet Grohl had signed record deal

Dave Grohl had “no idea” his daughter Violet Grohl recently signed a recording contract.

During an interview for The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X this week, the Foo Fighters frontman revealed he didn’t know about his eldest child’s career plans until she told him at a dinner.

“I had no idea. I knew she was looking to sign a record deal, and she was like, ‘Hey dad, can I come over for dinner tonight?’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, sure. What do you want me to make?’ And she came over and told me, like, ‘I signed my record deal (with Republic Records) today.’ I’m just like, ‘Oh my God!'” he recounted, adding, “So, I’m totally uninvolved. I’m the dad who wants to be there and know everything. And she’s just totally doing her own thing. It’s amazing.”

Dave went on to note that Violet, who has been working with producer Justin Raisen, will sometimes send him demos.

However, the rocker insisted that he had “absolutely nothing to do” with the 19-year-old’s creative process.

“(Violet is) so incredibly talented and has such great taste in music,” the 57-year-old praised.

Elsewhere in the conversation, Dave shared that he felt inspired to make new music after seeing Violet get so excited about going to the studio to record her first two solo singles, THUM and Applefish.

“It really did. The way that they made that record and the energy of it, I was like, ‘Oh, man. I’ve just been inspired by my daughter’s debut album.’ It’s cool,” he smiled.

Dave and wife Jordyn Blum welcomed Violet in 2006. The couple are also parents to daughters Harper, 16, and Ophelia,11.

Previously, Violet joined her dad onstage, along with the surviving members of Nirvana – Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear – to perform All Apologies at the FireAid Benefit concert in January 2025.

Meanwhile, Dave announced last week that the Foo Fighters’ twelfth studio album, Your Favorite Toy, will be released on 12 April.
