Grohl explained that Violet collaborated with producer Justin Raisen entirely on her own. “I had absolutely nothing to do with this record at all,” he said. The revelation came when she asked to come over for dinner and simply told him, “I signed my record deal today.” Grohl described the upcoming debut as “amazing,” noting a “wide range” of sounds from ethereal tones reminiscent of the Cocteau Twins to “super hard, really heavy rock stuff.”
The 19-year-old’s work ethic had a profound impact on the rock legends. Grohl confessed that watching her work “really inspired me to make this record,” referring to the Foo Fighters’ forthcoming 12th LP, Your Favourite Toy. “The way that they made that record and the energy of it, I was like, ‘Oh, man. I’ve just been inspired by my daughter’s debut album.’ It’s cool.”
The band also gave an update on guitarist Pat Smear, who is currently sidelined by a leg injury. While Smear is “getting restless” and texting the band ChatGPT answers to trivia, Grohl is ready for his return, imploring him to “fix your leg and get back on the road!” Drummer Ilan Rubin added that the new Foo Fighters project “came out of nowhere,” admitting he “didn’t expect” to be recording with the iconic group so quickly.
Reflecting on the pressure of joining the band, Grohl recalled hilariously disastrous auditions where musicians were “so nervous that they would, like, lock their guitars in the case.” He joked that if you “don’t have the key, you’re not getting the gig!”
