Dave Mustaine has revealed that he would like for Megadeth‘s final concert to take place in space – find out more below.

The legendary thrash metal band announced their plans to retire earlier this year with a farewell album and tour. “There’s so many musicians that have come to the end of their career, whether accidental or intentional,” Mustaine explained in a social media post. “Most of them don’t get to go out on their own terms on top, and that’s where I’m at in my life right now.”
So far, the album has been previewed by two singles: ‘Tipping Point’ and ‘I Don’t Care’, the latter of which released last week.
While the band have yet to reveal all the details of their farewell tour – except a handful of dates for 2026 – Mustaine shared in a chat with Metal Hammer that he would like for Megadeth’s final show to take place in space.
“I hope we’ll be playing up in space,” he revealed. “I think that will be a really fitting climax. And I’m not talking about on the side of a vomit comet. A gig on the Moon, a full moon landing, that would be cool. I saw they sent up a bunch of celebrities into space and I thought ‘Well, if them, why not me?’, you know?’
“I’m just watching how that all progresses. I know Elon Musk and Richard Branson were working on interstellar travel. I think people are going to be travelling to space a lot sooner than you think,” Mustaine continued. “People already travel over 40,000 feet altitude, and when you get to that kind of atmosphere you’re basically already in space.”
Mustaine also doubled-down, saying he believes people will leave Earth to live on other planets in the not-too-distant future: “I do think it’s going to happen. The question is, are people going to be able to inhabit the moon? Personally I’d never want to live on a planet away from the world we live in. People were talking about a trip to Mars, but all I can imagine is somebody suddenly going ‘Oh! I forgot my toothbrush!’ That would be the longest flight ever!’”
The guitarist’s comments come after Katy Perry earlier this year drew flak for travelling to space to reveal the ‘Lifetimes’ tour setlist. Social media branded the flight as “wealth tourism”, and the trip garnered some criticism from the likes of Emily Ratajkowski, who said she was “disgusted” by the flight, along with food chain Wendy’s.
In other news, Mustaine recently shared that Megadeth’s farewell run of shows could last “for another three to five years”. Mustaine has previously revealed that the band will be covering Metallica classic ‘Ride The Lightning’ for their final album, explaining: “One of the songs is a cover song but I actually wrote it, so it’s kind of like a cover, kind of like my song.”
