“When Brady told me he wanted to shoot our show in 70 millimeter (70 millimeter!) I didn’t realize what a difference it would make,” singer says of upcoming documentary

David Byrne’s hometown Baltimore show on his recent tour will be the focus of an upcoming concert film shot on 70mm by The Brutalist director Brady Corbet.

Filmed over multiple nights at Baltimore’s Hippodrome on Byrne’s lengthy trek in support of his 2025 album Who Is the Sky?, the concert film is currently in postproduction, with release details to follow.

“When Brady told me he wanted to shoot our show in 70 millimeter (70 millimeter!) I didn’t realize what a difference it would make until I saw some frames he sent me,” Byrne — who was born in Scotland but later raised in Baltimore County, Maryland — said in a statement. “He was right; it really does capture the wide screen visual scope of the show. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

“I am so grateful to David Byrne and his entire team for entrusting us to capture his hometown show on 8-perf and 15-perf 70mm,” Corbet added. “The band’s performance is an inclusive celebration of community, and of Baltimore in particular — one of America’s most underappreciated historic cities.”

Byrne has a history of teaming up with Oscar-winning or -nominated directors on his concert films throughout his career: Silence of the Lambs director Jonathan Demme helmed the Talking Heads’ classic Stop Making Sense, while Spike Lee helmed 2020’s American Utopia documenting Byrne’s tour in support of that LP.

Like his American Utopia trek, the Who Is the Sky? Tour features Byrne and an ensemble of 13 musicians, singers, and dancers in constant motion onstage, with the setlist seesawing between Byrne solo cuts and Talking Heads classics. After a year on the road, the tour — which launched in September 2025 — will come to an end on September 19 at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, New York.

The concert film is produced by Corbet’s Pre-Code along with The Deep End Films. “We are thrilled to help bring David Byrne’s incredible, joyous tour to the screen in a way that can be shared for all time,” The Deep End’s Jason Fine and Amit Dey added. “This film will capture one of our greatest artists at the peak of his craft, in a moment that brings people together when we need it most, and that will elevate the concert film experience to a new level.”
