Dean & Britta, the husband-and-wife duo of Galaxie 500’s Dean Wareham and Luna’s Britta Phillips, are teaming up with Sonic Boom to release a new holiday album. The collaborative LP, A Peace of Us, arrives November 22 via Carpark. The first preview is a cover of Willie Nelson’s “Pretty Paper,” performed by Britta and Sonic Boom, and you can watch the Leanna Kaiser–directed video for it below.
“This was a hit for Roy Orbison in 1963 and it’s a pretty song, but the lyrics, about a man who sits alone on the sidewalk outside a department store selling ribbons and paper, are sad,” explained Wareham in a statement. “Britta arranged this in the style of our synth-heavy score for the Noah Baumbach / Greta Gerwig film Mistress America.”
A Peace of Us is a 14-song record compiling a wide range of holiday songs “filtered through their musical imaginations.” It follows Dean & Britta’s 2020 album, Quarantine Tapes, and Sonic Boom’s collaborative 2022 LP with Panda Bear, Reset, which has since gotten dub and mariachi versions.
