Demand for Jess Glynne tickets soars 272 per cent thanks to Jet2holidays meme

Demand for Jess Glynne tour tickets soared this summer when a Jet2holidays advert featuring her signature hit ‘Hold My Hand’ went viral.

On ticketing marketplace viagogo, searches for “Jess Glynne tickets” rose 272 per cent month-on-month from June to July, which translated to a 50 per cent month-on-month uplift in ticket sales.

When it was released as a single in March 2015, Glynne’s infectious dance-pop song spent three weeks at Number One in the UK. It also became a platinum-certified hit in Australia, Canada, Italy and the US.

‘Hold My Hand’ was first used in Jet2 adverts and for in-aircraft announcements the same year and has gradually become synonymous with the low-cost airline. However, it was only this summer that Glynne’s Jet2holidays jingle went viral on TikTok. The trend was sparked by creators who used the advert’s tagline – “Nothing beats a Jet2 holiday”, which is voiced by Hollyoaks actress Zoë Lister – as a soundtrack for epic vacation fails ranging from lost luggage to sunburns.

Other TikToks set the jingle to scraps on planes, drunken accidents and travel delays, causing the audio to become a visual shorthand for holidays gone wrong. The meme became such a global phenomenon that it was even used by the White House in widely-condemned post on X showing immigrants being deported out of the United States.

After this post went viral at the end of July, Glynne took to her Instagram Stories to criticise the White House’s use of her song. “This post honestly makes me sick. My music is about love, unity, and spreading positivity – never about division or hate,” she told her followers.

The vast majority of Jet2 memes this summer have been good-natured, though, leading Glynne to embrace her song’s unexpected second wind. Speaking to KISS Breakfast in July, the Grammy-winning singer said: “It’s like the gift that keeps giving. It’s amazing and it’s actually mad how this Jet2 thing with ‘Hold My Hand’ is global now.”

She also confirmed that Jet2 bosses have yet to offer her a free holiday as a thank you for the surge in publicity. “Listen, they’ve been kind, they have been kind, but I’m also like ‘listen, we need to have a chat’,” she said playfully.

This summer, Glynne performed ‘Hold My Hand’  as her set-closing song at gigs in Derby and Hitchin Priory and at the Isle Of Wight festival, among others. The popularity of the Jet2 meme has also helped to propel ‘Hold My Hand’ to more than half a billion streams on Spotify, where it’s now Glynne’s fifth most-listened to song.

Julian Dwenger, International Partnerships lead at viagogo, said of the song’s impact: “If you haven’t seen a Jet2 meme this summer, you’ve probably been living under a rock. It’s amazing to see how viral trends are impacting the artists that fans want to see and how a decade-old track has blown up with a new generation driving serious demand for Jess Glynne’s shows.”
