Despite the “dancefloor is dead” comments, Charli XCX and Madonna hang out and party together in Paris

Madonna and Charli XCX have been spotted together in Paris following

Charli’s recent single ‘Rock Music’ (from her upcoming album ‘Music, Fashion, Film’, which comes out on July 24) caused debate over its bold declaration: “I think the dancefloor is dead, so now we’re making rock music”.

The lyric prompted Madonna, who is currently gearing up to release the long-anticipated sequel to 2005’s ’Confessions On A Dance Floor’ with ‘Confessions II’, to respond: “If your Dance floor feels dead, maybe you’re playing the wrong music”.

Now, the pair have been spotted together, ending a speculation of a feud.

They were seated next to one another at the Saint Laurent menswear spring/summer 2027 fashion show yesterday (June 23), and were later seen smoking and chatting with other stars in attendance, including actors Connor Storrie and Debi Mazar.

At the end of the night, the two danced together to Madonna’s hits, like ‘Thief of Hearts’ and ‘Hung Up’, from behind the DJ booth at the after-party. Watch below.

Charli has since clarified that she wasn’t dismissing dance music in the song, saying: “That lyric is very much about my relationship with ‘Brat’, and my personal experience with that album. My husband [The 1975‘s George Daniel] runs a dance-music label. There’s been such a wealth of incredible dance/electronic-adjacent records that have been coming out recently, whether it’s Slayyyter or Underscores or PinkPantheress. Dance music is in an incredible place.”

She has also denied that her new album is a rock album. It comes after Charli’s team previously confirmed that she was finishing work on her new album, and shortly afterwards, the artist told British Vogue some of the lyrics to ‘Rock Music’ – prompting speculation that the album would take a heavier direction. But Charli later clarified that she “never said” she was making a rock album.

Before then, the singer made it clear that she wanted to distance herself from the sound of ‘Brat’, and later added that she found it interesting to see the polarised reaction to the lead single.

Charli has also recently opened up about “struggling” with her mental health, saying, “I’m in the worst place mentally that I’ve been in my life.”

So far, two songs have been shared from the forthcoming album, the gritty, guitar led lead single ‘Rock Music’, and the edgy ‘SS26’. You can pre-order it here.

She will return to the stage to make her headline debut at Reading & Leeds in August, topping the festival bill alongside Fontaines D.C., Raye, Florence + The Machine, Dave and Chase & Status. Visit here for tickets.

Meanwhile, ‘Confessions II’ will be Madonna’s first record since her 14th album ‘Madame X’, which arrived in 2019.

So far, she has released the singles ‘I Feel So Free‘, and her Sabrina Carpenter collaboration ‘Bring Your Love‘. Madonna had previously appeared with the ‘Espresso’ singer during her Coachella headline set.

Elsewhere, Kylie Minogue has responded to rumours of a Madonna collaboration on ‘Confessions II’.
