Dhani Harrison, Nigel Godrich Preview New Band Dragonflies’ Album With ‘Slower’

Duo’s eponymous album arrives on Sept. 18

Dhani Harrison and Nigel Godrich have teamed up for new band Dragonflies and will release its debut eponymous album on Sept. 18 via Dark Horse Records/BMG.

The musician and renowned Radiohead producer previewed their Dragonflies with its lead single, “Slower,” which is also the first song on the album’s track list. The accompanying RUFFMERCY-directed video for the song features the director’s hand-drawn animation style.

In the clip, a person is seen slowly jogging through a town and in the woods, a field, and other natural settings. Another figure joins them as the peaceful intro unfurls. The pacing befits the themes of the song as they’re later seen exploring an abandoned building and walking on the beach by the water.

“Is it too late? Now I’ve had a taste,” Harrison’s sings on the contemplative song. “So I’m taking it slower. Are we too far gone?”

The longtime friends began working together after Harrison contacted Godrich during the Covid shutdown for some advice as he was working on what would become his sophomore solo album, 2023’s Innerstanding. Multiple conversations led to them discussing working together at Godrich’s Brixton studio, where they built songs from tape loops. “It’s like one person throwing something in the air and the other person catching it,” Godrich said of their process in a statement.

Harrison, who typically helms all of his own projects, took the role of singer and guitarist, while Godrich shaped their work as they made it. “He’s a machine,” Harrison said in a statement. “He has strong opinions about what he wants to hear, and for me it’s very humbling. That’s why it’s such a new experience.”
