Diplo was high on LSD when he gave a live interview during a New Year’s Eve broadcast.
The DJ stunned presenters Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper by making the admission during a virtual appearance from Los Angeles on CNN’s New Year’s Eve Live, which is broadcast from New York.
Host Andy asked, “What’s the most conventional place that you’ve done LSD?” to which Diplo laughed and replied, “Right now. I did some on the helicopter, on the way here… I’m not even lying.”
Anderson instantly burst into uncontrollable laughter while a shocked Andy asked Diplo to confirm he was “tripping right now”.
The Major Lazer star replied, “Yeah, but it’s like a light trip.” He added that he was “microdosing” but may have “macrodosed” earlier in the day.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Anderson declared he wished he “was Diplo” after the interview wrapped up.
“I feel bad about my own boring life compared to Diplo’s,” he said. “He’s got helicopters and he’s like doing things. He did like four shots while we were talking… And he’s going to play. How does he work? How does anybody do anything? I’ve had four shots. I just want to go to sleep.”
The 46-year-old, real name Thomas Wesley Pentz, went on to perform three DJ sets at Avalon Hollywood in Los Angeles later that night.
The music producer previously told the outlet in 2023 that he sometimes drops “small doses” of acid while working because it gives him “a fresher perspective”.
He also took the psychedelic drug before running the Los Angeles Marathon that year and found that “the first two hours (were) a breeze” and he ran “at the fastest pace” but he “really paid for” his decision in the last hour and 55 minutes.
