Documentary about late former Iron Maiden singer Paul Di’Anno’s final years to be released

A documentary charting the later life of former Iron Maiden singer Paul Di’Anno is set to be released.

Di’Anno was the lead vocalist for the heavy metal icons from 1978 to 1981 before pursuing a solo career. In October 2024, he passed away at the age of 66 from an aortic dissection after being troubled by health issues in his final years.

The latter part of Di’Anno’s life has now been captured in the documentary Di’Anno – Iron Maiden’s Lost Singer, which is set for a digital video on demand and DVD/Blu-Ray release on June 9 via Cleopatra Entertainment. Pre-order your copy here.

The film documents the story of two Iron Maiden fans who lift Di’Anno during a difficult stage in his life, helping him back to good health and getting him back on the road. It features guest appearances from his former bandmate Steve Harris, as well as Metallica’s James Hetfield and KISS’ Gene Simmons, and members of Slayer, Megadeth and Sepultura.

Watch the trailer here:

It is directed by Wes Orchoski, known for the Lemmy documentary, and he has said: “Paul was waiting for surgeries that doctors in the UK would not greenlight. He was in an incredibly dark place. But once he got to Croatia, fans and doctors gave him the hope he was desperately searching for. It was beautiful to witness. I wanted to make a film that was unlike any rock doc you’ve ever seen. And in the end, I think we got there.”

A separate Iron Maiden documentary, Burning Ambition, has also just been released, celebrating the band’s 50th anniversary. In a three-star review, NME wrote: ” For those uninitiated in the ways of Eddie and the gang, Burning Ambition ticks all the right boxes. But as Dickinson himself summed up perfectly in a recent interview: “Diehard Maiden fans will be asking: ‘why isn’t it 10 hours long?’” It makes you wonder whether a documentary series may well have been a better option – even if the movie makes for a moving and amusing recap of Maiden’s incredible legacy.”

The band are headlining a huge show at Knebworth this summer, with support from The Darkness, The Hu and others. It takes place on July 11, with camping options for the full EddFest weekend event. Find any remaining tickets here.

The band are one of this year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, but the band will not be attending, having previously described it as “an utter and complete load of bollocks”.
