Doja Cat has addressed criticism of her performance at the 2025 Academy Awards.
The Kiss Me More star, real name Amala Dlamini, joined RAYE and BLACKPINK’s Lisa to perform a medley of James Bond movie theme songs at the prizegiving staged at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday night.
Doja offered up a rendition of Diamonds Are Forever, which was originally recorded by Shirley Bassey for the 1971 spy film of the same name.
However, some critics accused Doja of not hitting all the high notes, and taking to Instagram on Monday, the singer-rapper confessed the “nerves got to me”.
“Thanks to the Academy Awards and Vanity Fair for having me. I never get to sing like that and what I did was brave and scary as f**k for me,” she began. “I know a lot of people didn’t like it but a lot of people did and I feel good that I pushed myself.”
Doja went on to note that she hopes to be able to perform at similar events in the future.
“The song is a classic and I put a lot of work into it but the nerves got to me and a b**ch hit some flats. I can’t wait to do something like that again. What a blessing that was. I feel amazing about the whole thing. Bye,” the 29-year-old continued, before adding: “ALL the girls chewed down last night God BLESS them all. Absolutely gorgeous performances from everyone.”
Elsewhere in her post, Doja revealed that she got to dance with actress Sarah Paulson at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party.
“I danced with Sarah Paulson last night also Flow is my favorite movie of all time cuz it’s a story about friendship (sic),” she shared, referring to the Latvian fantasy-adventure film that won Academy Award for Best Animated Feature on the weekend.
