Donald Trump has blasted the musicians who pulled out of the Freedom 250 concert series.
In a Truth Social post, the US President referred to them as “third rate artists”.
“I understand Artists are getting ‘the yips’ having to do with their performance on Wednesday, so I am thinking about bringing the Number One Attraction anywhere in the World,” he wrote, referring to himself as “the man who gets much larger audiences than Elvis in his prime”.
He continued on in his statement, adding that he would give a “major” speech that would rally “the Country forward like I have done ever since being President”.
“I don’t want so-called ‘Artists’ that get paid far too much money, who aren’t happy. I only want to be surrounded by Happy People, Smart People, Successful People, and People that know how to WIN,” Trump concluded.
The president’s statement comes after multiple artists, including Martina McBride, Bret Michaels, Morris Day & The Time, Young MC, and The Commodores, pulled out of the concert series, which was scheduled to run from 25 June to 10 July.
The artists all made claims of being misled as to the nature of the event.
“I was presented with an opportunity to perform at a nonpartisan event, but that turned out to be misleading,” McBride, wrote in an Instagram post on Thursday.
Young MC claimed “the artists were never told about any political involvement with the event” in his Instagram statement.
Michaels told fans he was pulling out of the show because “what was presented to us as a celebration of our country has evolved into something much more divisive than what I agreed to be a part of”.
