Drowning Pool’s South American tour cancelled after “low ticket sales”, but band claim it’s due to “logistics”

Drowning Pool have cancelled their South American tour due to “low ticket sales”, with the band blaming it on “logistics”.

The Dallas nu metal band had been set to launch their first ever run of shows on the continent tomorrow (May 20) in Bogota, Colombia and it was due to run until a gig in Coritiba, Brazil on May 31, but on the eve of the tour, the plug has been pulled.

A statement from the tour organisers read (in translation from Spanish): “The decision was made jointly by all local promoters involved due to low ticket sales recorded in all cities on the tour. Customers who have already purchased tickets must request a refund directly from the company responsible for ticket sales in their respective city. For more information and specific guidance regarding the refund process, please contact the local promoter. We appreciate your understanding.”

It comes just days after guitarist CJ Pierce appeared on the Teaser Talk podcast, when he said the tour had been “put on hold” because “all the logistics weren’t put together for us to get there in time”.

“There’s a lot of, you know, again, red tape and stuff like that because we didn’t meet the deadline for it,” he continued. “So, I’m hoping to go back. Love South America. We really want to play there. I want to go so bad. But yeah, that’s going to be it.”

Frontman Ryan McCombs added: “It’s very rare that you see something come up on your calendar that you haven’t done before. And that’s there was several countries there that we had never – I know I’d never been to before. So I was really looking forward to that. So we’re definitely pushing towards that.”

They are far from the only artists to have to call off tours due to ticket sale troubles in recent months. This week, Kiefer Sutherland cancelled the US leg of his upcoming tour due to what he described as “very low ticket sales”, and The Pussycat Dolls also called off their North American shows earlier this month.

Others to cancel strings of dates – although not explicitly due to ticket sales – include Zayn Malik, Neil Young, and Post Malone and Jelly Roll.

Elsewhere, Drowning Pool are reissuing their debut album ‘Sinner’ for its 25th anniversary on June 5 and you can pre-order it here. They are also on the line-up for Download Festival next month.
