El Coyote y Su Banda Tierra Santa Roars Back to No. 1 on Regional Mexican Airplay After Nearly 26 Years

El Coyote y Su Banda Tierra Santa ends a nearly 26-year wait for a second No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay chart, as “Te Dije” takes the lead on the ranking dated July 4. The song climbs 7-1 with the Greatest Gainer honors – awarded weekly to the song with largest growth in audience.

“After 26 years, we’re back at No. 1,” El Coyote tells Billboard. “The last time was in 2000, and today, in 2026, we return to the top spot with the song ‘Te Dije.’ Thanks to the entire Andaluz team, especially Mr. Jesús Tirado Castañeda — thank you so much, Don Chuy — to the whole crew, to my band Tierra Santa, to God, and to you, the audience. For you, we’ll keep working to make beautiful music and to keep these wonderful things happening, like reaching No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican chart. ¡Ánimo! We keep moving forward.”

“Te Dije” crowns Regional Mexican Airplay following a 22% gain in weekly impressions, earning 6.1 million during the June 19-25 tracking week in the United States, according to Luminate. The song replaces Cuisillos’ “Aunque Me Duela,” as the latter slips from No. 1 to No. 5 with 4.8 million audience impressions; a 25% drop for the week.

As El Coyote y Su Banda Tierra Santa rides back to No. 1 on Regional Mexican Airplay, the Sinaloan band earns its second leader in nearly 26 years, when “To Soñé” ruled for two weeks in November 2000. Between those wins, the group logged eight additional top 10s, led by “Te Vas Amor,” which reached No. 3 in 2003. Overall, El Coyote y Su Banda Tierra Santa has placed 12 top 10s on the chart.

El Coyote’s 26-year wait between No. 1s is the longest in the history of the chart, which launched in 1994. Only one other act has waited at least 20 years between leaders: Marco Antonio Solis, with 22 years between “El Peor De Mis Fracasos” in 1999 and “Se Veía Venir’ in 2021.

Elsewhere, “Te Dije” pushes El Coyote to a new high on the overall Latin Airplay chart: after becoming the group’s first top 10 on the June 27-dated ranking (jumping 12-10), the song climbs from No. 10 to No. 2.

“Te Dije,” written by Joss Favela, was released on March 20 via Andaluz/FONO/UMLE and is one of 15 tracks on the group’s studio album Nacimos Pa’ Ser Historia.

Xavi Cracks The Top 10 on the Latin Pop Charts: Over on the Latin Pop Airplay and Hot Latin Pop Songs charts, regional Mexican singer Xavi, breaks into the top 10 as “Dosis” debuts at Nos. 3 and 8, respectively. The track marks his second entry on a Latin pop chart, despite primarily recording regional Mexican music.

“Dosis” traces its top 10 debut on both rankings to 3 million audience impressions in the United States during the tracking week.

Before “Dosis,” Xavi made his Latin pop debut with “La Del Primer Puesto,” featuring Reik, which gave him his first top 10 on Latin Pop Airplay with a No. 4 debut and peak, and reached No. 16 on Hot Latin Pop Songs last October.

Notably, “Dosis” becomes the fourth song by an act primarily associated with regional Mexican music to reach the top 10 of Hot Latin Pop Songs. Carín León leads that group, as “Desde Que Te Tengo” climbs 5-3. Yahritza y Su Esencia follows with its first collaboration with Rosalía; “La Perla” holds at No. 6 for a second week after a 16-week domination. Just behind Xavi, sad sierreño singer-songwriter Ivan Cornejo slips 8-9 with “Baby Please.”
