Ella Langley’s Choosin’ Texas has become the longest-running number one single in US chart history.
The country smash has overtaken a record previously set by Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You after clocking 23 weeks at the top spot.
Choosin’ Texas was released last October but didn’t hit the top 10 until January and finally made it to number one on the US Billboard chart for the first time in February.
The 27-year-old star is blown away by the success of the song.
She said in a video message shared to Instagram: “I’m genuinely trying to find the words to explain what’s going on in my brain today.
“What? I don’t know. Thank you so much. Thank you for loving this song, for listening to it. I feel like… I just don’t even know what to say at this point.”
As her dog could be heard barking excitedly, she added: “I’m running out of hyperboles to describe how I feel, so I will just let my dog in the background show you his excitement.
“Just thank you. Thank you so much. It’s changing my life. It’s changing the lives of the writers of this song. It’s changing the lives of my family and it is truly growing an atmosphere for something I’m gonna be able to do the rest of my life and I just…”
The news hasn’t yet sunk in fully for Ella.
She added: “Today doesn’t feel like a real thing.
“It feels fake and somebody’s going to come in and be like ‘haha we’re kidding the whole time just kidding.’
“I’m really excited to just experience a moment like this in my life.”
Ella wrote the song with Luke Dick, Miranda Lambert and Joybeth Taylor and she admitted they were all unsure why the track – which is about losing a mystery man to another woman – had connected with so many people.
She previously told Billboard about what she thinks has helped the song connect so strongly: “I don’t know. I really don’t.
“Those of us that wrote it, we talk about that. We love this song. I don’t know if it’s because it’s an honest point of view … but I hear a lot of honest songs all the time, so I don’t know. I tried to add some groove into this record, big singing choruses and big melodic guitar licks that you can remember.
“I don’t know if it feels nostalgic or sounds like something they hadn’t heard before.”
