Reflecting on the moment the request came in, Eve admitted there were some internal discussions regarding the track’s provocative lyrics. “It was me and management discussing, with a few other people, because of certain things that he maybe said,” Eve explained. “That wasn’t from my side, that was, like, from legal.”
However, once she heard the production, any hesitation vanished. “As soon as I heard it, I was like, ‘This is a hit!’ I knew it. It was down to the night before the record was supposed to come out, but I was like, this is a bona fide no-brainer. Like, and it was out of here.”
The track went on to become a viral phenomenon, introducing Eve’s signature sound to a brand-new generation of listeners. For Eve, the resurgence of her music through modern drill and UK rap is something she views with immense gratitude. “It’s amazing. I feel so lucky,” she told Shayna Marie. “Also that it ignites my shows as well. I’m like, ‘Oh, I can throw that in here and that gives it a new [energy].’ I truly appreciate it and I don’t take it for granted.”
The interview served as a prelude to a major announcement: Eve will be returning to the airwaves this bank holiday Monday, May 4. She is set to guest present Capital XTRA’s Fully Reloaded takeover, curated specifically to bring the best old-school R&B and hip-hop vibes to the national audience.
