Ex-Turnstile guitarist kicked out of new band after accusing Turnstile of misappropriating funds from a benefit show

Ex-Turnstile guitarist Brady Ebert has been kicked out of his new band, The S.E.T., after accusing his former bandmates of misusing funds from a benefit gig.

The new Baltimore hardcore band announced yesterday (February 6) that they would be parting ways with Ebert just weeks before the release of their debut EP ‘Self Evident Truth’, due on March 6.

In a statement shared to Instagram, The S.E.T. said the decision stemmed from recent statements he had made online towards his former bandmates.

“Brady is no longer a member of THE S.E.T. We will not stand by his ridiculous comments and behavior toward the members of our band and our community,” they wrote, thanking the Baltimore hardcore scene for their support.

The band debuted in September last year, when they played their first show at Zen West in Baltimore. Ebert has not publicly addressed his removal from the band.

It comes after Ebert had shared a series of inflammatory social media comments aimed at his former bandmates in recent weeks.

In late January, Turnstile took to their Instagram story to post a graphic reading “abolish ICE.” The post was later reposted by music journalist Jesea Lee, and Ebert commented, accusing the band of performative politics.

“Lmao, no one in Turnstile cares at all about ethics or social issues in general,” he wrote. “They’re just pandering to their audience,” per Vice.

Ebert then went on to allege that the band misappropriated funds from a past benefit show. “They claimed all proceeds go to healthcare for the homeless,” he wrote.

The musician then claimed that Turnstile raised $10,000 at that show, before frontman Brendan Yates allegedly stole $4,000 from the revenue and claimed that he did it because he “needed to ‘pay the merch bill.’”

Ebert said he believed this “was false.”

He then seemed to reference his 2022 exit from Turnstile after 12 years together. At the time, it was reported by Lambgoat that drummer Daniel Fang had filed for a restraining order against Ebert.

Ebert wrote: “Also my friends filed a restraining order and guess what, they had two laywers with them abd I showed up to court bt myself and the judge DENIED the restraining order because there was no statute in the laws about what qualifies for a restraining order that they were able to meet the requirements of.

“In other words they had no reason to file it and it was all over text messages which they showed the judge and the judge agreed with me without me even having to testify so next time before u spread bullshit misinformation say that shit to my face,” he added.

Ebert was one of Turnstile’s founding members, alongside vocalist Brendan Yates. They started the band in 2010, joined by bassist and vocalist Franz Lyons, drummer Daniel Fang and guitarist Sean Cullen (who left in 2015 and was replaced by Pat McCrory). He played on three of the band’s studio albums — 2016’s ‘Nonstop Feeling’, 2018’s ‘Time & Space’ and 2021’s ‘Glow On’.

NME have contacted representatives for Turnstile for comment.

In other news, Turnstile were nominated in an impressive five categories at this year’s Grammys, and on the night were named as winners of Best Rock Album for their ‘Never Enough’ record, as well as for Best Metal Performance with ‘Birds’.

After winning the awards, the band took to social media to speak out about the “heightened state violence” in America.

Turnstile’s ‘Never Enough’ album was ranked at Number Eight on NME’s list of the Best Albums Of 2025, and the single ‘Look Out For Me’ also made its way to Number 11 on the ranking of our Best Songs Of The Year.
