Erick Brian has topped Billboard’s new music Latin poll published on July 31 with his new song, “Efímero” in collaboration with Dale Pututi and Nesty.
Billboard readers voted for the collab as their favorite music release of the week after the New Music Latin poll and playlist were published.
“Efímero” (which translates to “ephemeral”) is about a brief relationship that was not in the same frequency, and powered by reparto music — Cuba’s growing movement that fuses urban with timba, son and rumba, and is heavily backed by the wooden clave.
For Erick Brian, a former CNCO member who kicked off his solo career singing R&B and Afrobeats, the single “is incredibly personal because it allowed me to reconnect with my Cuban roots while exploring a completely new sound,” he said in a press statement.
“He’s actually a fan of one of our songs called ‘Maridon,’” artist and producer Dale Pututi tells Billboard. “That’s when we reached out and invited him to the studio, and the song happened organically. For us, it was really special because it’s the first reparto track he’s released, and we represent the more commercial side of the genre — trying to make it as international as possible so it resonates globally — and the chemistry was amazing; that really comes through in the song.”
