Fatman Scoop’s cause of death has been confirmed.
The 53-year-old rapper collapsed during a show in Connecticut in August, and on Tuesday, it was revealed he died from hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
The Connecticut Chief Medical Examiner’s Office made the announcement and confirmed the manner of death was ruled as natural.
Fatman Scoop, whose real name is Isaac Freeman III, suffered a medical emergency on 30 August while performing at a summer concert at the Hamden Town Center Park.
According to reports, medics ran on stage and performed chest compressions on the Grammy Award-winning star behind a DJ booth, before he was transferred by ambulance to a local hospital.
The following morning his family announced Freeman had died.
“It is with profound sadness and very heavy hearts that we share news of the passing of the legendary and iconic Fatman Scoop,” read the message on Instagram.
Video footage later emerged of the shirtless rapper hyping up the crowd shortly before he collapsed.
Freeman gained prominence with his 1999 club favourite Be Faithful, and he famously collaborated with stars including Mariah Carey, Missy Elliott and Ciara.
