Finneas is behind the new Apple TV theme

Finneas has discussed creating the new tune for Apple TV+ Originals.

The new piece of music, described as a mnemonic, will accompany the Apple logo before each show or film, in the same way Netflix’s signature “Tudum” theme plays in front of their programming.

He described mnemonic as “sort of a beautiful word for a logo” when discussing it with Variety.

“The things that I think of as real classic mnemonics are NBC — you can hear that in your head — or HBO has its static” he continued. “If you’re binge-ing the whole season of Ted Lasso or Severance or Disclaimer, you’re going to hear the mnemonic 10 times in one day. So, it’s gotta be something that’s like the bite of ginger between rolls or something, you know?”

He explained there will be three versions of the mnemonic, depending on the type of content it precedes. “There’s like the main version, which is five seconds, which is what you hear before episodes of a television show” he explains. “There’s a one-second version that is just a sting, that might play when you see a movie trailer and they just show the production company.”

“And then there is a longer-form version [of about 12 seconds] which you’ll see it in a movie theatre at the start of an Apple studios original film, like Killers of the Flower Moon. I tried to make sure that that one felt a little more cinematic and a little grander, because it had more seconds to get from A to B, but it also just felt like it was a different environment.”

The multiple Grammy-winning artist, who is Billie Eilish’s brother, shared the piece of music on Instagram, along with the caption: “Created the new mnemonic for Apple TV. Never thought I’d get to do something like this but I am so honoured and truly couldn’t have enjoyed working on it more.

“Hope this very short piece of music feels like it matches the things I love about Apple so much- They make such beautiful tools. Lucky to use em.”

In June, Finneas joined forces with Ashe to form a new band called The Favors. You can check out the new single ‘The Little Mess You Made’ here.

In the same month, he revealed that he was tear-gassed during a “peaceful” protest against the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) department’s operations in Los Angeles.
