Flavor Flav has reportedly submitted his bid to become a torchbearer at the 2028 Olympic Games – find out more below.
The rapper and Public Enemy member, who has been an ardent supporter of the Olympics this year, has revealed on a recent episode of the Politickin’ podcast with Gavin Newsom, Marshawn Lynch and Doug Hendrickson that he’s committed to being a torchbearer for the United States at the next Olympic Games.
In fact, Flav has already submitted the paperwork for his bid as a torchbearer. He told the podcast’s hosts: “I put my bid in already. I said, ‘If Snoop can carry the torch in Paris — come on, man — Flav can carry that bad boy in L.A.,’ and Snoop did a fantastic job, man.”
Should Flavor Flav’s bid be approved, he would follow in the footsteps of Snoop Dogg and Pharrell Williams, who were both torchbearers for this year’s Olympic Games. Other musicians who doubled as torchbearers, both this year and in the past, include BTS’ Jin, Will.i.am, Mel C, Jedward, John Legend, Paloma Faith, Dizzee Rascal, Mark Ronson, Labrinth and Olivia Newton-John among others.
Flavor Flav recently made headlines for unveiling the custom bronze clock he made for Olympic gymnast, Jordan Chiles, earlier this month (August 12). The gymnast was ordered to return a bronze medal that she won at the Paris Olympics by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) after it was ruled that Chiles’ coach made her appeal just four seconds too late.
Flav took to social media to show off the custom clock, writing: “USA gonna Fight The Powers that be. but in the meantime between time, I gots yo back @jordanchiles Hit me up.”
He also went viral as the official “hype man” for Team USA’s water polo team, saying: “This is quite an experience for me right now, you know, because the only time I’ve ever seen the Olympics was on TV. You know what I’m saying? But I always wanted to see what it felt like being there.”
In related news, Flavor Flav has received his own Olympics-themed Funko POP! doll.
