Foo Fighters share massive title track and announce new album ‘Your Favorite Toy’: “It feels new”

Foo Fighters have announced their new album ‘Your Favorite Toy’ and shared the unapologetic title track. Check it out below.

The new album announcement comes on the heels of Dave Grohl and co. dropping hints about the follow-up to 2023’s ‘But Here We Are‘, in recent months – both declaring that a new album is finished, and then dropping teasers with fans online.

Earlier this month, the band updated their official website and made it into an interactive page filled with snippets of new material, and today (Thursday February 19) they have confirmed that the new record will be titled ‘Your Favorite Toy’.

It is set to be released on April 24 via Roswell Records/Columbia Records, and marks the 12th studio album from the American rock giants.

Today, the band have also shared a new taster of the record in the form of the title track. According to Foos, the song represents the feel of the album as a whole, and will mark a creative new chapter for them.

“‘Your Favorite Toy’ really was the key that unlocked the tone and energetic direction of the new album,” Grohl explained. “We stumbled upon it after experimenting with different sounds and dynamics for over a year, and the day it took shape I knew that we had to follow its lead. It was the fuse to the powder keg of songs we wound up recording for this record. It feels new.”

Check out the song above, which comes packed to the brim with brash guitar riffs and immense keyboard melodies and an infectious chorus. “Get back/ Hear that, boy?/ Someone threw away your favorite toy for good/ For good,” the frontman declares.

The full album was recorded at home, co-produced by Foo Fighters and Oliver Roman, engineered by Oliver Roman, and mixed by Mark “Spike” Stent.

It also marks the first with Ilan Rubin, who recently joined as drummer and took on the role from Josh Freese. The two have swapped groups, with Rubin leaving Nine Inch Nails to join Foos, and Freese departing the Dave Grohl-led band and returning to NIN.

You can visit here to pre-order the album, and check out the full tracklist below, which includes previously shared single ‘Asking For A Friend’.

Foo Fighters’ ‘Your Favorite Toy’ tracklist is:

‘Caught In The Echo’
‘Of All People’
‘Window’
‘Your Favorite Toy’
‘If You Only Knew’
‘Spit Shine’
‘Unconditional’
‘Child Actor’
‘Amen, Caveman’
‘Asking For A Friend’

The new album marks the follow-up to ‘But Here We Are‘, which was a mournful farewell to their longtime drummer Taylor Hawkins, who died in March 2022 aged 50.

Since then, the band have released ‘Today’s Song’ in honour of their 30th anniversary as a band, and then shared the aforementioned track, ‘Asking For A Friend’.

The band recently released a new live album capturing their recent run of intimate club shows, titled ‘Are Playing Where??? Vol. I’, and also played their first show of the year without Pat Smear.

They’ll be heading over to the UK and Europe this summer, with the schedule including festival appearances at Mad Cool, Pinkpop and more, as well as two giant headline slots at Liverpool FC’s Anfield Stadium. Find any remaining tickets here.

Earlier this week, the band announced the Australia and New Zealand leg of their ‘Take Cover’ tour for 2026 and 2027. Find all the details here.

NME has given the new title track a glowing four-star review, and praised it as being “unstoppable and laser-focussed”.

“Foos have certainly turned up the heat, shifting to a more thrilling gear when they could cruise down the slow lane to keep things rolling across the stadium and festival circuit this summer,” wrote NME’s Andrew Trendell. “Despite having made headlines in recent years for drummer squabbles and infidelity, their comeback single is snarlingly unapologetic.”
