Frank Sinatra “loathed” Donald Trump, says daughter Nancy

Frank Sinatra “loathed” Donald Trump, says daughter Nancy

Nancy Sinatra has revealed that her father, the legendary singer Frank Sinatra, “loathed” Donald Trump.

She made the comment on X (Twitter) as part of a series of posts condemning the US president’s administration and the ongoing ICE raids across the country. “This is not my father’s America. He would be devastated. Trump is so wrong in so may [sic] ways,” she wrote, quoting a video of an alleged ICE raid.

Another X user replied, “Your Dad would have loved Trump,” prompting Nancy to say, “Do some homework before you make a fool of yourself. My dad LOATHED Trump.”

In 2017, Sinatra’s former manager Eliot Weisman spoke about the singer’s dislike for Trump in his autobiography, The Way It Was: My Life With Frank Sinatra (via The Week). He claimed that he’d agreed a deal for him to perform a residency at Trump’s Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, in 1990.

Mark Grossinger Etess, one of Trump’s employees, made the agreement with Weisman before his death. Later, Trump intervened and tried to “lowball” Sinatra, according to Weisman, who claimed that Sinatra told Trump to “go fucking himself” and performed a residency at the Sands in Las Vegas instead.

Politically, Sinatra supported both Democratic and Republican politicians. He campaigned for Democratic presidential candidates, including Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry Truman, and frequently associated with John F. Kennedy before he took office, and was a committed civil rights advocate.

However, he officially changed allegiance in 1972 when he endorsed the Republican candidate Richard Nixon. In 1985, Ronald Reagan presented Sinatra with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, saying, “His love of country, his generosity for those less fortunate … make him one of our most remarkable and distinguished Americans.”

Nancy, meanwhile, has often criticised Trump, and told The Guardian in 2021 that, if he’d have beaten Joe Biden in the election the previous year, she would have considered moving country.

She added: “I’ll never forgive the people that voted for him, ever. I have an angry place inside of me now. I hope it doesn’t kill me.”

The Trump administration and ICE have been criticised by a number of prominent artists, including Sabrina Carpenter. After the White House used her single ‘Juno’ in a video promoting ICE activity, the singer hit out at the administration, calling the video “evil and disgusting”.

“Do not ever involve me or my music to benefit your inhumane agenda”, she added.

The White House deleted the video, but not before press secretary Abigail Jackson issued a statement, saying: “Here’s a Short n’ Sweet message for Sabrina Carpenter: We won’t apologize for deporting dangerous criminal illegal murderers, rapists, and pedophiles from our country.

Days later, the White House went on to use a clip of Carpenter on Saturday Night Live in a new ICE deportation video.

A number of other musicians have spoken out against Trump’s ICE raids, too. Olivia Rodrigo attended anti-ICE protests in June, adding that she was “deeply upset” over the “violent deportations of my neighbours under the current administration”.

She then hit out at ICE for using her song in a video encouraging self-deportation, writing: “Don’t ever use my songs to promote your racist, hateful propaganda.” ICE videos using the music of MGMT and The Cure were also removed due to official takedown requests.

Meanwhile, Addison Rae said she was “disappointed and disturbed” by Trump’s ICE raids, adding: “This country could not exist without immigrants”. Shakira would also speak out against Trump’s immigration policy, sharing that she lived in “constant fear” as an immigrant in the US.

Following the raid he witnessed, Bad Bunny would also declare that his world tour would not come to the United States as he was afraid of ICE agents raiding his shows.
