Friday Dance Music Guide: The Week’s Best New Tracks From Afrojack, David Guetta & Sia & More

This week in dance music: Bonnie X Clyde, deadmau5 and Steve Appleton, Illenium, David Guetta, Dustin Lynch and Dead Turnley all made moves on the dance charts, as did Slayyyter, who clocked her first No. 1 on Top Dance Albums with her recently released Wor$t Girl In America. Meanwhile, ANOTR’s “Talk to You,” featuring 54 Ultra, rose to No. 1 on the WARM Global Dance Radio chart.

Ahead of his main stage set at Coachella today (April 10), Anyma released his pop melodic techno collaboration with LISA, “Bad Angel.” And before their global debut as Nine Inch Noize at Coachella this weekend, Nine Inch Nails and Boys Noize announced a collaborative album being released April 17. The Stagecoach-adjacent Rodeo Nights parties announced a lineup for next week that includes Diplo & Friends, Marshmello & Friends, Austin Millz, Brandi Cyrus, Wyatt Flores, Wuki, Bailey Zimmerman, Cameron Whitcomb and Charly Jordan.

We caught up with mid-aughts heroes Teddybears about their 2006 hits “Cobrastyle” and the Iggy Pop collab “Punkrocker” as part of our 2006 retrospective week, and Pacha New York announced the opening weekend dates and lineup for its much-anticipated debut, with Michael Bibi and Black Coffee set to the play the club on June 20-21. After a year of turmoil during which the former Brooklyn Mirage transformed into Pacha, the club’s new operators have also offered more than $3.1 million in food, drink and merch vouchers to more than 30,000 unrefunded Brooklyn Mirage ticketholders.

And last but certainly not least, these are the best new dance tracks of the week.

  • Afrojack, Sia & David Guetta, “Awake Tonight”

Fifteen years after their era-defining collaboration “Titanium,” power trio Afrojack, David Guetta and Sia reunite for “Awake Tonight.” The chest-thumper is rendered in major chords and shimmering production, all of which creates the foundation for Sia’s unmistakable voice. Guetta performs at Coachella’s extended set Quasar Stage on Saturday, April 11.

“Awake Tonight” is out on Spinnin’ Records. Listen to it here.

  • Amelie Lens, “whatever you do”

After a buzzy b2b with Sara Landry at Ultra Music Festival in Miami, Belgian star Amelie Lens drops “whatever you do,” a celestial but also characteristically pounding techno gallop. The tracks comes ahead of Lens’ packed summer schedule that includes performances at festivals including Sonar and Tomorrowland, along with myriad headlining dates.

“whatever you do” is out on Sony Music Germany.

  • Sara Landry, Hekataia

Landry also drafts off the buzz her of Ultra b2b with Lens via the release of Hekatai, a three-track EP made with hard techno producer Godtripper, a frequent guest on Landry’s Hekate label. Together the pair whip of the kind of driving, incantatory productions that are Landry’s signature, to thrilling effect.

Hekataia is out on Hekate. Listen to it here.

  • Virtual Riot, Burning Out

Bass favorite Virtual Riot releases 12-track Burning Out, his third studio album, written about a journey through burnout, collapse, sobriety and everything contained therein, with inspiration coming from this transformation and from music well outside the bass realm.

“So I’ve always been a fan of Charli xcx’s album ‘how I’m feeling right now,’ not just because of the music, but because I like the idea of an album being the musical representation of how the artist is feeling when they wrote it,” Virtual Riot says in a statement. “In this spirit, Burning Out is representative of how I am feeling right now with constant touring, traveling, and playing shows all the time. The album title and cover also felt like the logical next step after Stealing Fire, and the songs are either heavy bangers or emotional and euphoric melodic songs, kind of going back and forth between intense live shows and moments of introspective recovery from them.”

Burning Out is out on Monstercat. Listen to it here.

  • Chris Stussy, Lost, Found & Forgotten

The first album from of-the-moment star Chris Stussy features 19 tracks thematically broken up into the three chapters referenced in its title. In practice, the equates to a motherlode of sharp, stylish music that spans house, deep house, drum & bass, ravey electronica and beyond, altogether delivering a strong debut from the in-demand Dutch artist.

“This album has been a long time in the making, and I’m excited to finally share it with you,” Stussy says in a statement. “The process behind it – exchanging ideas with other artists and creating music outside of my comfort zone – has been an incredible experience. It gave me a true sense of freedom, allowing me to not think about boundaries or expectations. I’ve never been more proud of a project than this one. It’s deeply personal, and it represents my sound as a whole. I hope you listen with an open mind and find something in it that resonates with you.”

Lost, Found & Forgotten is out on Up The Stuss. Listen to it here.

  • Melanie C, “Attitude”

The latest single from her forthcoming dance album, Sweat, Melanie C delivers an uplifting dancefloor jam with as much swagger as its title suggests. Sweat is out May 1, with the British icon calling this her ninth solo studio album “a long time in the making, and I’m excited to finally share it with you. The process behind it – exchanging ideas with other artists and creating music outside of my comfort zone – has been an incredible experience. It gave me a true sense of freedom, allowing me to not think about boundaries or expectations. I’ve never been more proud of a project than this one. It’s deeply personal, and it represents my sound as a whole. I hope you listen with an open mind and find something in it that resonates with you.”

“Attitude” is out on Red Girl. Listen to it here.
