Gary Glitter charged with four historical sexual offences

Gary Glitter has been charged with four non-recent sexual offences.

The Rock and Roll singer, real name Paul Gadd, has been charged with unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 and three counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14.

Officials at the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced on Thursday that the charges are in connection with allegations made by one alleged victim about alleged incidents that took place at a residential address in Kensington, London between 1978 and 1981.

The allegations against Gadd, 82, were first reported to London’s Metropolitan Police in January 2025, and the musician was first interviewed as part of the subsequent investigation on 22 July 2025.

“This follows allegations made by a woman relating to a period of alleged abuse that took place between 1978 and 1981,” said Bethan David, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor in CPS London. “Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring this case to court and that it is in the public interest to do so.”

David added, “We have worked closely with the Metropolitan Police as they have carried out their investigation into the allegations.”

I’m the Leader of the Gang (I Am) singer is currently being held in HMP Cannings Wood in Devon.

He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London on 5 August.
