Gene Simmons and All of Kiss’ Co-Founders Mourn Ace Frehley at Private Funeral Service

Ace Frehley‘s family and friends celebrated his life on Wednesday during an intimate ceremony in the Bronx, New York, which was also attended by Frehley’s Kiss co-founders Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, and Peter Criss.

Eddie Trunk, the SiriusXM host who was a close friend of Frehley, shared reflections on the funeral and confirmed the Kiss members’ attendance. “Ace Frehley has now been laid to rest in Bronx, NY. It has been an emotional couple of days to say the least, saying farewell to a rock icon and long-time friend,” Trunk wrote on social media. “All of the services went as well as they could and were attended by a small group of family and close friends, including the 3 surviving original members of Kiss.”

Trunk also announced plans for a future tribute show to honor the guitarist with the blessing of Frehley’s family. “That’s something I feel, and many others feel, is deserved and should happen,” Trunk wrote.

Frehley died in Morristown, New Jersey, at age 74 on Oct. 16. Frehley’s rep, Lori Lousararian, attributed his death to a “recent fall at his home,” though a specific cause of death was not immediately available.

Kiss vocalist Simmons shared a sweet tribute to the guitarist shortly after his death. “Our hearts are broken. Ace has passed on. No one can touch Ace’s legacy,” he wrote. “I know he loved the fans. He told me many times. Sadder still, Ace didn’t live long enough to be honored at the Kennedy Ctr Honors event in Dec.”

Simmons added, “Ace was the eternal rock soldier. Long may his legacy live on!”

Earlier that day, Simmons and Stanley shared a joint statement, describing Frehley as “an essential and irreplaceable rock soldier during some of the most formative foundational chapters of the band and its history.” Frehley’s bandmates added, “He is and will always be a part of KISS’s legacy.”
