Ghost announce new ‘Skeletour’ concert film ‘2 Big To Rig’, coming to cinemas

Ghost have announced a new concert film, 2 Big To Rig, coming to cinemas and IMAX worldwide next month.

The movie captures the masked metal band’s huge ‘Skeletour’ world tour, which wrapped up earlier this year. It follows Tobias Forge and co’s debut film, 2024’s Rite Here Rite Now.

2 Big To Rig marks Ghost’s second collaboration with Trafalgar Releasing. The upcoming feature-length was shot on 16mm film over the group’s two sold-out shows at Mexico City’s Palacio de los Deportes last autumn.

Viewers will be transported “through time and space to a spot in the crowd of nearly 40,000 who witnessed those darkly magical nights”, per a press release.

The big screen project focuses on Ghost’s “live ritual”, boasting behind-the-scenes interludes showing crew members bringing the band’s theatrical vision to life. Fans will also see the only pro-shot footage of frontman Papa V Perpetua and the band on their phone-free tour.

2 Big To Rig, described as “the definitive document of Ghost’s unforgettable ‘Skeletour’ world tour”, lands in cinemas and IMAX worldwide on Wednesday August 26, for a limited time only.

Tickets go on sale next Thursday (July 23) – you’ll be able to buy yours here. For updates on screenings, showtimes, and to sign up for further information, visit here.

The film’s title is a nod to Ghost calling an end to the ‘Skeletour’ this February after 70 shows across North America, the UK and Europe. It was made to share the live experience with fans outside of those territories. It is also for those who had tickets for the first of three planned Mexico City concerts, which became two after night one was cancelled due to illness.

Kymberli Frueh, EVP Content Acquisitions & Programming at Trafalgar Releasing, said: “Ghost captured the final nights of the legendary Skeletour’s first leg on 16mm film in Mexico City – creating a nostalgic experience and a fitting farewell to an era for fans.

“We’re proud to share it with cinema audiences worldwide before Ghost takes a well-publicised break. It’s the perfect way to close such a significant chapter in the band’s history and give fans a chance to relive this moment together.”

Earlier this year, Tobias Forge explained that he was ready to take a “step away” from playing live after Ghost’s ‘Skeletour’ had concluded. “I need to be home. [My kids are] 17; they’re not gonna be around for an eon,” he said at the time.

He previously called the no-phone rule at the ‘Skeletour’ shows “life-changing”, saying: “Just walking off stage [on the] first night was just, like, ‘This has completely changed the entire outlook of how this feels’.”

Last October, Forge recalled a severe panic attack he once experienced onstage that impacted his ability to perform.

During an interview with NME last year, he opened up about wanting to bring the “lore” of Ghost to an end as he looked to the band’s future.

“I think that there might be an end to the storytelling because it’s not productive to have this endless soap opera,” he told us. “If fans need the lore in order to like the band, then that element will probably be over quite soon.”

Forge shared details of Ghost’s sixth and latest studio album, 2025’s ‘Skeletá’, too. He described the collection as “10 songs of hopefully healing joy”, adding: “I’ve always tried to do something different from the previous one, so this time, I wanted to make a record that was based on introspection.”
