Gracie Abrams Releases Her Pain in Cathartic ‘I Told You Things’ Live Performance From Red Rocks

The performance was captured for the concert special Apple Music Live: Gracie Abrams, available exclusively on Apple Music

The only way out is through, so Gracie Abrams runs headfirst towards the pain of her wounded heart in her live performance of “I Told You Things” at the Red Rocks Amphitheater stop on her The Secret of Us tour. The show was captured in full for Apple Music Live: Gracie Abrams, the concert special available exclusively on Apple Music beginning Oct. 30.

“What if I took your call/As more than just a call?/As writing on the walls,” Abrams sings to the crowd before turning towards the camera with a pointedly intense gaze. “You built this cage/Lost color in my face/You’re fair and I’m insane/Hallucination, shame/Guilt, pain, more pain.”

“I Told You Things” appeared midway through the set list at the Aug. 11 concert, slotted between the Good Riddance deep cut “Full Machine” and the unreleased record “Out of Nowhere.” During the concert, she also teased “Death Wish.”

“‘I Told You Things’ is, I think, my favorite song on the album and also my favorite moment in the show, that song and ‘Death Wish,’” Abrams told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. “It’s interesting making all the things that we’re making now. Those two songs have been such clues ultimately into what this next chapter feels like, and I am enjoying it very much, because it feels like a returning to the feelings that I know have historically compelled me to write songs.”

Apple Music Live: Gracie Abrams will stream for a limited time on Apple TV. The performance will also be available to stream as a complete live album only on Apple Music.

“We were all kind of walking around touching all the rock and climbing up all the seats,” Abrams said about headlining Red Rocks. “And during sound check, especially because it was closing out what’s been a long stretch, we wanted to kind of burn it in our brains. And thanks to you guys, we get to literally look back on it for the rest of time.”
