Gurriers share bruising new single ‘Nothing Happens Twice’

Gurriers have shared another new single – you can listen to ‘Nothing Happens Twice’ below.

The song is the third preview of the Dublin band’s second album ‘Nobody’s Coming To Save You’, which is released on September 25 via Play It Again Sam.

‘Nothing Happens Twice’ was inspired by Irish playwright and novelist Samuel Beckett’s 1950s play Waiting For Godot, and is described as an “absurdist take on the state of the modern world”.

The cut combines existential lyrics with the ‘dead internet’ theory, exploring the idea that the online world is increasingly made up of bots rather than real people. It tackles political unease, digital alienation and brings a dose of dark humour.

“Nothing ever happens here, nothing happens twice!” snarls frontman Dan Hoff in the bruising chorus, expressing his frustration over feeling a sense of stagnation in modern times.

‘Nothing Happens Twice’ is accompanied by an eerie official music video, directed by Thomas James (Kneecap, Bring Me The Horizon, Young Fathers).

“We worked very closely with the lads on this one, shooting in Pierce [O’Callaghan, drummer] and Mark’s [MacCormack, guitarist] hometown – turning it into a changeling, psycho fairy trip through grief and ritual,” explained James.

Gurriers dropped the title track from ‘Nobody’s Coming To Save You’ in May, before sharing follow-up single ‘Party Lines’ last month.

Last autumn, the band shared the single ‘Erasure’ as the first new material since their 2024 debut album, ‘Come And See’. Earlier this year, Gurriers took to the stage at The Great Escape 2026, where they played the then-unreleased ‘Nothing Happens Twice’.

NME featured the slot among our top 10 performances from the festival, writing: “The cathartic, doomy ‘Nobody’s Coming To Save You’ already sounds like an anthem, while dance-punk punisher ‘Nothing Happens Twice’ has people shouting its chorus back before it’s even been released.”

Gurriers are appearing at Boomtown, Leeds Festival and Electric Picnic this month, among other UK and European events, ahead of their UK and European headline tour this autumn. Find any remaining tickets here.

A UK and Ireland outstore record shop tour is scheduled to kick off next month, with dates in Dublin, Edinburgh, Dundee, Liverpool, Nottingham, Cardiff and Oxford. Find all the details here.

Speaking to NME around the release of their debut LP, Gurriers described the project as “a statement of intent”. It also saw the group tackling thorny political issues, including the rise of the far right in Ireland.

“We hoped it would send a message,” frontman Hoff told us, in reference to the mass boycott of SXSW 2024 by Irish artists. “What the movement needed at SXSW was for bigger names like The Black Keys to say they weren’t playing, but instead it was Irish acts and smaller bands pulling out.”

Drummer O’Callaghan added: “It was important that the Irish bands all did it together. What we had to do is incomparable to the atrocities facing the Palestinian people. It was incredibly disappointing of course, but at least we knew we were doing the right thing.”
